Virtually all of these targeted books certainly have artistic and literary value, even and especially as they discuss controversial topics such as drug use, racism, and queerness.
Each year, the ala creates a top ten list of the most challenged books filed by librarians and gleaned from news stories published throughout the country. Between january 1 and august 31, 2024, alaโs office for intellectual freedom tracked 414 attempts to censor library materials and services.
